A flight attendant once gave me great advice. He said: “Put on your own oxygen mask before helping others” No, really. Think about it. It’s a great metaphor for life.
When I ask people about their passions, many say: “I’m passionate about helping others!” It sounds nice but it’s totally misguided. The real question is how will you help others? What do you have to offer? You can help more people if you help yourself first. Invest in yourself. Develop your skills. Love yourself.
Most people think that’s selfish. But actually it’s MORE selfish to only think of others. You end up not being able to help them as much as you could if you honed your talents.
Stop gasping for air. Secure your oxygen mask first. Otherwise you’ll burn out.
